Latin Name:
Pieris japonica
location:
Japan Taiwan some parts of eastern China
The Japanese Pieris, scientifically known as Pieris japonica, is normally found around Japan, Taiwan, some parts of eastern China. To recognize it it is mainly broadleaf evergreen shrub, making it a very interesting plant! In the summer, its foliage changes to a new form, more or less leaves are glossy green and in the automn it can be described as evergreen, no fall color develops. The Japanese Pieris (Pieris japonica) has beautiful flowers that are small, white, urn-shaped flowers; 0.25" long and its fruits are more or less small, rounded, dehiscent capsules that persist. An interesting characteristic it has is its bark, where we can see gray-brown on it. An interesting fact about the way it is cultured would be that prefers a moist, well-drained, cool, organic, acidic soil Also, an inconvinient with the Japanese Pieris can be that lacebug can cause significant stippling on foliage, making it yellow and unsightly, especially in hot dry sites A good way to identify a Pieris japonica with its foliage is whorls at the shoot tip. The Japanese Pieris's propagation method is uncommon since it performs it by seed; seed is very fine
