The Saucer Magnolia, originally named Magnolia x soulangiana, can be found more or less around a hybrid of
Magnolia heptapeta. It is usually shaped as a deciduous small tree, making it a unique plant! In the summer, its foliage looks like deciduous leaves 3" to 7" long, half as wide and in the automn its foliage then is leaves turn yellow-brown before falling. The Saucer Magnolia (Magnolia x soulangiana) also has flowers being white, pink, or purple and contains fruits that are 4" long aggregate fruit with knobby surface. It has a beautiful Bark, where a special pattern can be found, smooth, silver-gray on it. An interesting fact about its culture is that moist, fertile, deep soils with high organic matter are best However, an inconvinient with the Saucer Magnolia can be that flowers prone to damage form late spring frosts A way to identify a Magnolia x soulangiana having its flower buds and vegetative buds very distinct.
