The Scholar-tree, originally named Sophora japonica, lives around China and Korea. It is usually shaped as a deciduous medium to large tree, making it a plant very different from others. In the summer, a special form of foliage appears, more or less alternate, pinnately compound leaves and in the automn its foliage then is no fall color. The Scholar-tree (Sophora japonica) grows flowers that are pale yellow to creamy white and grows fruits that are a 3" to 8" green pod. An interesting characteristic it has is its bark, where we can see twigs and branches are smooth and olive green with prominent tan lenticels on it. An interesting fact about the way it is cultured would be that full sun However, a bad thing with the Scholar-tree can be that twig kill in severe winters You can recognize a Sophora japonica with its olive-green bark on stems and young branches with raised tan lenticels. The Scholar-tree's reproduction is very interesting since it is done cuttings are bud grafted
