White Maple
Latin Name:
Acer saccharinum
location:
eastern United States and central plains but not in the southeastern states Also adjacent parts of Canada
The White Maple, referenced in Latin as Acer saccharinum, is normally found around eastern United States and central plains, but not in the southeastern states. Also adjacent parts of Canada. It is usually shaped as large tree to around 70', but can reach well beyond 100', making it a plant very different from others. In the summer, its foliage is more or less opposite leaves, 5-lobed, fairly deeply incised and in the automn its foliage is specially typically leaves drop a greenish yellow or green. The White Maple (Acer saccharinum) has flowers that are monoecious with male and female flowers on separate branches of a tree; some flowers may be perfect as well and the fruits it has are samaras, 1.3" to 2.3" long, maturing in June. An interesting characteristic it has is its bark, where we can find trunk and branches are silvery-gray on it. An interesting information to note about the way it is cultured would be that easily grown, transplanted and established so data is limited However, an inconvinient with the White Maple can be that rapid growth creates weak wood which breaks easily in storms or under ice load We can easily identify Acer saccharinum with its stems when broken produce a strong odor. The White Maple's reproduction is pretty interesting since it does it by seed
